Home Bleaching Instructions (30% Gel)

1) Place a single drop of bleaching into the front surface of each tooth indention of your bleaching trays using only 1/4 cc. of syringe for one entire arch.  (Upper and lower can be worn together.)  If material is too difficult to get out of the applicator, trim back tip with scissors.

2) Place in the mouth, expectorate the excess.  (Some bubbling may occur around the gums.  This is normal.)  Make sure to wipe any excess away from gums.

3) If there is excess material then use less material in the next bleaching session. If the tray covers your gum tissue and the tissue gets sensitive you will need to bring the tray back to us to trim the tray away from the gum.

4) Leave in place for twenty to thirty minutes.

5) Remove tray, rinse thoroughly and repeat once more that day for a maximum total of 1 hour of bleaching a day. Do not bleach more than this!

6) After final treatment, rinse trays and store dry until next treatment.

7) Repeat this process daily for one to two weeks and then return to the office for an evaluation.

8)  Refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking for 30 minutes-1 hour after wearing the gel.  Also avoid citrus/acid to minimize possible discomfort. Avoid all tobacco products, coffee, tea, cola’s, grape juice, strawberries, blueberries, and any other staining foods or beverages.

Touch up Bleaching

1) Whitening will decrease slightly over time.  After every cleaning, to keep your teeth white, please repeat your procedure of choice for 1-2 days.

2) Keep your excess bleach in the refrigerator to extend its life.  The bleach will remain active for up to two and 1/2 years with refrigeration.  Also store your trays in a clean dry place.  The trays can be reused.

3) When you need more bleach, please call the office.

Bleaching Sensitivity

1) To keep sensitivity to a minimum, it is advisable to use toothpaste for sensitive teeth or prescription strength fluoride during the bleaching process.

2) If your teeth or gums become too sensitive: STOP BLEACHING!

3) Try to bleach every other day, or skip 2 days between bleaching.  If the sensitivity persists, call our office.

4) If you have sensitivity, your bleach may be too strong.  You may need to switch to the 10% or 15% solution.

5) Some patients are too sensitive to use bleaching products.  You may have to stop bleaching and consider other esthetic options.
